This tree coral is a marine fossil but was a plant, rather than the coral reef-building animal. It was found in Alaska.

The internal structure of the pine cone is very well preserved and beautifully translucent. The structure revealed in this slice of petrified (fossil) pine cone is similar to some of the Araucaria specimens that I've seen coming from Argentina. My source did not identify its provenance. There is a repaired fracture at the upper right corner.
